Really?

I understand that you might not feel the same way, but after reading this thread you don't see how some might be dissapointed?

Hm.

Oh come on, that is not the album art. Please tell me they're fucking with us. That looks like something you'd find at one of those "try me" listening booths in New Age wellness center giftshops. You know, the kind with the headphones and push-buttons for samples. Really, if I saw this album and had no prior knowledge of who this band is or what their CD might sound like, I would think it was made for yoga studios or something.
I was never a fan of the album covers on the records they released on columbia, but the music on those records was so awesome it and made me forget about the less then mediocre album covers. Im sure the music on the upcoming album will do the same thing.

Wow, well Im excited for the new record. I dont really understand all the people who feel let down. I love By The Way and am anxious to hear a studio version. The Streets pumped me up big time the first time I heard it and Into The Light and Gravity are pretty darn good songs as well. Im not crazy about Lets All Kill Each Other but it doesnt put a damper on my excitement. The record is gonna feel "new" to me cause Im not as familiar with I Should Have Stayed In Bed as most people seem to be. The cover art? When I first saw it I was like Huh? now it seems perfectly fine but it really doesnt matter to me what they put on the front of their albums I pretty much know its Soul Asylum and its most likely going to be freaking fantastic.

Yeah!! New Album!!

Love Cruel Intentions, saw it in Denver at a little club and it was amazing. I love the way they can do punk, rock, country and Lounge. I don't know Stay in Bed, but is sounds exactly like my kind of song. I am happy to see studio versions of the "new" songs, INCLUDING Kill each other, which always felt not quite finished and has not been played in a long time that I know of. They were playing at sound check the last two I heard (First Ave and the Viper Room) and both times seemed like it was REALLY coming along. I will be psyched to hear the final.

Album art, really this is Soul Asylum. Have you seen the other covers? I like the cover.

Now if Dave would just play trumpet again...

Can't wait to see the boys again. Seriously Jonesing for a show. Looking forward to hearing some early releases on the site.

The studio version has been out since 1992.

Well I have a live version on the Runaway Train single but didn't know that an actual "studio" version existed. Either way its gonna be new to me especially if its reworked.

I think, in a way, I'm used to being...underwhelmed by the new cds. LYDLS was the first album that was truly new to me, that I wasn't playing catch-up. However, at that time I also hadn't seen any SA concerts and YouTube wasn't around, so 17-year-old me got the tape and played it all summer long. I knew and loved those studio versions of the songs.

A few years later, I found the message board and found people who traded concert tapes. One of my favorites then was a tape that had much of what would eventually become CFAS. I was so used to those versions, I loved those versions so much. When I got the CD, I remember feeling, "Oh. Huh. That's it, then. Ok. Why am I not liking this more?" There was something missing on the studio version that the live version had. Around this time I started going to concerts more and making friends through the fan club. I heard many of the Silver Lining songs way before that cd existed. I had a similar reaction to the Silver Lining. The song versions I knew and loved where what I heard live in concert with my friends, and I thought the studio version was missing something.

I'm pleasantly surprised that there's a cd at all. One of my friends said on Facebook that he viewed the band as "part time" now, and I think that's an apt description. The guys are spread among 3 states (MN, LA, NY) and perhaps settled in their lives in those states, they're older (turning 50 this year or in the next few) and maybe the whole band grind thing they did in the 80s and 90s just isn't as do-able for them anymore. (Yes, I realize that other acts like Springsteen or Richard Thompson are older and still touring, but different strokes, I suppose.)

Thus, while yes, I would have liked to see more new songs and/or additional lost oldies from 10 years ago, I am happy that there's something coming out, period. I wonder sometimes if we're on borrowed time with the band, especially since Karl died. As for the new rock bands who tour regularly and keep releasing albums...they're new. They're hungry. They're still establishing themselves and their fanbase. SA did that in the 80s and 90s, and I'm glad I made it to the party in time to catch some of that, but it seems to me that many of the bands I liked from that early-mid 90s alt-rock era have slowed down.

So I'll get the new cd, and I'm sure I'll be excited for it, and I'll take it home and maybe it won't be as magical as hearing it at a show with all of you, but I'm a collector and a completionist, and I want this in my collection. Regardless of the track list or the album cover, SA is still my favorite band, the source of many friendships, the reason I psyched myself up to go on road trips, and they were the gateway to alt-rock and music fandom for me.
