If he gave up that beauty, he must be done with the music business. I'm sure he has other guitars but that one was THE ONE!

I was thinking the same thing; I was hoping I'd get to see him do a one-off with GS at least, but I reckon this indicates that he's Done with a capital "D."

Had the exact thoughts myself - he's really done.

I guess that means the end of the Smog too, at least as a live act. Without Murphy and Tweedy it may as well just be the early-2000s Jayhawks again.

Sigh...I admit this makes me sad and that I held out hope for a GS one-off too. Though there's a part of me that isn't, or maybe shouldn't, be surprised.

happy for all the amazing memories. But sa sad anyway. What good is a les Paul if it is not being played? Might as well bury in the back yard.

I'm thinking he has more than one of the same guitar. I was looking back at photos and this one does not have the Obama sticker on it that was on there as recent as the last show I saw with Dan (which was one of his last shows). He could have peeled off the sticker, but when I looked back at my photos, it seems like the sticker was there and then not there and then there again, which makes me think there are two. I know Dave has the one with Holiday Inn plate and then one with a sticker on it that I am thinking was like a space camp thing or something. And he seems to use them interchangably. Anyway, maybe he's not completely over playing guitar, he just doesn't think he needs a spare since he's not touring all time.

There's not much I'd love more than if Dan Murphy self-released a solo acoustic album sometime soon.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just sayin'
