Thank you, Lucy! :D
sheryl wrote:I wonder if Dans vocals come off as sparse, compared to Daves, more because of stylistic differences rather than vocal quality. Dan's voice is pretty, it's way more on key, and it's a hell of a lot more controlled, but therein might lie the issue that makes his vocals sound somewhat ...less.
That might be it! Compared to Dave's, Dan's has less volume... As with the stylistic difference, I also agree with you. I think it confirms with what I said, that because Dan's voice is "prettier", his would go quite well with second voices than in leads; while Dave's has this unconventional voice that would go well in leads.

Hey, lune ellise, I sent this to a friend of mine. She's not a Soul Asylum fan, but she is a slash fiction writer and fan, so I thought she might like this. She wrote back, " That's awesome!"

Just thought I'd pass along the compliment. :)
Tell her I'm flattered  . I've been looking for that word "slash" - thanks for reminding me. BTW I'm a slash fan, too (but I wouldn't admit it, ever) but I do not have the courage to write about it (or even think about it)...

Moving on to a new topic...

I found this picture in the web (guess why I like this picture? - you would get a cookie!)

It is Beck and Liz Phair. I have the issue of Rolling Stone that has that picture. It was a January or February 1994 issue.

OK, thanks for the info guys. I'm not sure who they are, really, but a little research will quench my thirst.

BTW - I like the subtitle (good job, Zany!). It screams "boys, keep out"

Add a Dan album to that! I'd love to see what he could do solo.
(quote from the dream thread i thought i'd reply to here)

good idea - i'm realizing i'm more of a dan fan than i knew i was. it's weird how all the comments on here make me listen harder to figure out if i agree with you all. such as i definitely don't agree w/ the 'pretty' description of his voice some use but i understand it's hard to describe him when he's next to dave's voice which is also difficult to describe.
anyways, an all-dan-all-the-time album would be pretty cool.
heck i'd even buy an all-dan-written SA and GS compilation album.

Well, you could always make yourself a dan mix :)

Between SA and GS you could make yourself something pretty awesome.

And you have choices...dan written? dan sung? both?

He used to sing quite a bit more than he seems to now, in fact I can't immediately recall any dan vocals on GDU, only one on Dim Light, none on Candy and none on Silver Lining. Hmmmm....
But anyway...if you go back into the older stuff there's a LOT of danny songs.

i could make a mix but i'm still missing a lot in my collection. (i saw that helpful list somebody posted many pages ago on this forum)
