A place for SA chords and tabs

Post by oxygen909 »

I have been looking for SA chords for a very long time. At last thanks to people who put some tabs on enterthesoulasylum.com I found very unique chords (many thanks to Tone M.). These people inspired me to discuss one thing. I have been playing guitar for a couple of years and I tabbed 11 SA songs so far. All of them are on ultimate-guitar.com. I think that there should one place for SA guitar tabs on the internet . I found some interesting works on the enterthesoulasylum.com forum and I think that is the one and only chance to gather in one place guitarists who are SA fans to work many songs which are not tabbed yet. My suggestion is to make on enterthesoulasylum.com a place for this kind of activity. Make a place to submit tabs, exchange opinions and so on…. What do you think about it ????

Good idea. I have an accurate tab version for Misery that my band used to play. I'll put that one up then.

why don't we just use this thread for it? you can copy and paste in what was already posted on another thread and the ones you did?

oh and maybe jakob/jim could link the songs in discography to the forum post here that has the tabs for the ones we have here?
sounds easier than setting up a whole new part of the website for it to me.

i think you can link to a specific post within a thread (is that true?)

Make an extra place for tabs on enterthesoulasylum.com sounds very good to me.

Using a thread for tabs is very difficult because the tablines appear in a different way in the thread than in the panel.
Otherside I do not know how difficult it would be to make something like ultimate-guitar for enterthesoulasylum.com.
An extra place for tabs and a thread to discuss the tabs and work them out together would be very cool!

Zany´s idea to link the songs in discography to the tabs is very good too.

At the moment Jakob and I believe it'd be too much work for too small a crowd to put such a section up in the site itself.

In the mean time we recommend using this thread to post/paste any of your own tabs/chords as well as linking to other off site links should you want to contribute any of them.

However, we are working on the site behind the scenes and plan to improve it as the album launch gets closer. ;)

According to the discussion about the topic “ A place for SA chords and tabs’ I would like to
propose to make the SOUL ASYLUM SONGBOOK created by SA fans. . I hope that it will be a beginning of something great. Here is my proposal for the songbook – SUN MAID my first song tabbed and put on ultimate-giutar.com.

Soul Asylum
"The Sun Maid" from Grave Dancers Union album

One of the most beautiful songs by Soul Asylum. Very intelligent text of the song.
Seemingly very simple piece of music but if you look deeper into the lyrics you will see sad story about
disregarding and loneliness.
I tabbed this songs listening to the acoustic concert of Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy on
APRIL 1993 in Minneapolis taken from LittleTooClean website - one of the biggest fan of a
band. Many thanks to him for putting this concert on the internet !! Enjoy this song.
Wait for Your comments/suggestions.

Here is one of my favorite play-alongs:

I Did My Best

Intro: G C G C

G______________Bm
Holed up in the dressing room
C__________G
Without a dress

Kneeling at the confessional

And I acted surprised and I told lots of lies
____C________G
Yes, I did my best

G___________________Bm
Stop the truck at the truck stop
C_______________________G
I need something to help me crash
_______________________D
Food stamps, checks, and credit cards
C___________________D
But they only accepted cash
______C
There was sweat beading on my brow
___G________________________Em
My heart was beating out of my chest
____G_________________________Bm
So I stole everything they couldn't give away
____C________G
Yes, I did my best

G___________D
And I did the best that I could do
____Bm________________Am
With all the mess that I've been through
D_______________________C______Bm
What did you expect me to do
__Am__________G
I did my best for you

during Solo:
G Bm C G C C G Em G Bm C G

G_____________________Bm
I was waiting for a chain reaction
C______________G
With the missing link
______________D
Waiting for that trickle-down
___C_____________C
Forever circling the sink
______C
I was tired of being tired
__G_____________Em
I could not get no rest
____G__________________Bm
So I kept sleepwalking and talking in my sleep
____C________G
Yes, I did my best

G__________D
And I did the best that I could do

Cool idea. I Did My Best is probably my favourite SA song to play too. Be great to see some TSL tabs, if anyone has...

oxygen requested this one, so I'll post it here and at ultimate-guitar...

Fearless Leader

The original Just Like Anyone B side. For the shorter Silver Lining take, play:
Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 3, Chorus, Bridge, Verse 2, End Chorus

Verse 1

G______________Am
Jesus was a hippie
C______________D______________G_______F
Peace and love was all he was about
G______________Am
That's why they killed him
_______C_____________________D______________G
'Cause that shit's something people can't figure out

Am_____________________Bm______________C
Now some folks who worship him are the ones
______________D______________G
Who would have cheered at the crucifixion
Am______________Bm
They got no conviction
_______C______________D______________G
It doesn't matter if the man was fact or fiction

Verse 2

Nixon was a liar
It's the one thing believed to be true
But Tricky Dick was not a crook
Whatever that means, whatever presidents do

Money can't buy you children
And nothing can bring them back to you
We all make mistakes
We all need someone to look up to

Chorus

D___________________________________G
But who're you gonna call your fearless leader?
C______________Am______________D
Who's gonna put your fears to bed?
G______________F______________Am
'Cause heroes will never let you down
F_______C______________G
Just as long as they're dead

Verse 3

Satan is a feeling, deviance it lurks in everyone
Guilty pleasures, mischievous behavior can be fun
No one made you do it, nobody but yourself to blame
It's always at your door and trouble is its name

Chorus

But who're you gonna call your fearless leader?
Who's gonna put your fears to bed?
Heroes will never let you down
Just as long as they're dead

Bridge

F____________________________G
Sometimes you gotta pick and choose
F____________________________D
Sometimes, no matter what, you lose

Verse 4

Divine was a woman
His private parts said she was a man
Those were his private parts
The parts that he could never understand

But she was an actress
She could be anything that she wanted
Her reality was the very
Thing that she flaunted

Chorus

But who're you gonna call your fearless leader?
Who's gonna put your fears to bed?
Heroes will never let you down
Just as long as they're dead

But who're you gonna call your fearless leader?
When you run from fear you leave yourself behind
You can't dump your fears on someone else
'Cause it's all in your mind

Many thanks TONEM for Fearless Leader. I am trying to tab another SA song: "Tell me When" from Let Your Dim Light Shine album. But I have got some problems with some chords. Could You help me with it. Is it correct ?

Intro: ???

D
She's all by herself at the end of the day
G
She'd talk to herself but wouldn't know what to say
D
Wrings her hands and steps out of the bath
G
The mirror laughs and splits her in half
C
She looks around the room
D
At her carpeted tomb
C
Threw the phone on the floor

A?
Left the keys in the door

??? ????
Tell me when does life begin

She got in the car and looked up at the stars
And made a wish
She held her breath and considered death

And in the rearview mirror
She looked back on her reflection
She was a long way from she wanted to be
And a long way from perfection

Tell me when does life begin

Bridge: ??????

She chickened out and she called triple-A
And told them the way
After she paid they fixed the car
She got on her way and she drove past the bar

Where no one bought her a drink at
She always though it was 'cause she was too fat
And now she knows those places blow
Or maybe it was her nose

Tell me when does life begin

By the way, had a search for The Silver Lining tabs and found Oxygen and Success Is Not So Sweet, not tried them out yet:

http://www.gitaartabs.nl/songtekst.php?id=3825
http://www.gitaartabs.nl/songtekst.php?id=3856

Also found this site:

http://tabfu.thudspace.net/s/soul_asylum

Tabfu has Cartoon, Sometime To Return and Eyes Of A Child, which are strangely missing from

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/sou ... m_tabs.htm

Close - http://www.guitaretab.com/s/soul-asylum/17881.html
I Will Still Be Laughing - http://www.tabworldonline.com/guitar/3072.txt

Searching through, I have a whole buncha tabs that no longer seem to be available anywhere on the net, which are all uncredited. I'm not sure what the etiquette is on posting other people's old tabs, but the ones I have on file or can probably piece together from memory are:

Blood Into Wine
Creatures Of Habit
Lies Of Hate
New York Blackout
No Time For Waiting
See You Later
Spinnin'
The Break
Veil Of Tears

So whaddaya think? Ultimate-Guitar them?
