This is probably simple but I can't figure it out and couldn't see it anywhere here: the intro to Closer to the Stars (While You Were Out version). If you gots it, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

I guess it is kinda simple but it's not at the same time. Anyway, this is how I play it. Whether it's right or not, I'll leave to you guys and gals to decide.

e----------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------
G-9999999999999999999999---------------------------9p
D-999999999999999999999999999999999999999
A-777777777776666666666699999999999999999
E------------------------------------77777777777777777

Or basically if you break the part into 4 parts, the first is a high E power chord. On the second, the A-string E switches to an Eflat or Dsharp (although, it may only be the bass that switches. Try it if you've got a band to play with). The third and fourth play a B power chord. You could finish the 4th with a quick return to E, or just pull the G string on the 9th fret before jumping into the song proper.
This is all repeated twice in the middle of the song after the solo starting at around 1:39 with the ahhs. In that part there is a clear finish on a low E power chord at the end of the fourth part the second time around.

Happy playing!

J

Hello everybody ! I have just done some first chords for “Into the Light”. Waiting for your suggestions as always. Hope Tonem will join us too. He had always good advices for every SA song.

SOUL ASYLUM FOREVER !!!!

“Into the Light” album ????????

Chords:

C* 35553
G-320033
D-000232
C-032010

Intro: C*____G___D

C*______________________G_______________D
Once you’ve drawn the line, you can’t think twice
C*_______________G____________D
You would never take your own advice
C*________________G____________D
Skating on a grave that’s paved with rice
C*_________G_____D
You step into the light

?______________________?
How can I be sure if this is a sure thing
?_______________________?
I’m so tangled up in puppeteers’ strings
?____________________?
Once you’ve crossed the line
______?
You’re stepping into

G____________D_________________C
Breaking horses, raising cain, heading for the hills
G________________D_____________C
The best day ever just got better, it gets better still

Once you’ve crossed the line You can’t let go
Never go out, I have been alone
Skating on a grave that’s made of stone
You step into the light

You better be sure that this is a sure thing
As a puppet on a string
Once you’ve crossed the line
You’re stepping into

Breaking horses, raising cain, heading for the hills
The best day ever just got better, it gets better still

Once you’ve crossed the line, you can’t think twice
You’re looking out of

Chasing sirens, red lights change
No time left to kill
[Waving flags of macho life
Find a cheaper thrill

This is a sure thing
Once you’ve crossed the line
You step into the light
You step into the light

Breaking horses, raising cain heading for the hills
The best day ever just got better, it gets better still

Waving flags of macho life
Find a cheaper plan

Alrighty, one of my fave SA tunes ever: Nowhere to Go

This starts out with a gentle picking over a D chord then goes into a G Em C D pattern during Karl's (RIP) monologue. You gotta hammer on/pull off occasionally on the high strings. Screw around with it a bit and I'm sure you'll get it. Also, the 2nd guitar has some extra notes in between the chord changes giving it kind of a bass line feel to it ----> G F# E

(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

Ah, the west
Where the men were mean
The women were scarce
And the sheep were mighty nervous

(Hocks and spits)

You know, I'm just a cowboy
But I've got no place to go
There's no more ranges for me to ride
Nah, they got rid of those sixty, seventy years ago

Go back to Em on the laugh
(laugh)

There are 2 riffs in the rest of the song. The 1st is instrumental with no singing over top. Let's call it Riff 1. It follows a E B A B power chord pattern (the E is the high E played on the 7/9 frets of the A-D-G strings) The "stop" below comes on the first strum of E of Riff 2. Riff 2 is E A B B pattern over the verses. The start is just E strummed once and then muted. Quickly jump to A and then B following the rhythm.

E
Stop

A
Look where you're going (oh, oh, oh)
You're not going anywhere (oh, oh, oh)
People everywhere, new hairstyles (oh, oh, oh)
Where your bluffings not a change

Chorus is back to the G Em C D played in fast power chords

I ain't got nowhere… nowhere to go
Sometimes I feel so… so all alone
I ain't got nowhere… nobody's home
I need a fix, I'm oh so alone

Riff 1 x2 (first time, only strum each chord once, 2nd time go all out!) then back to Riff 2 over the verse again

Ah, you, just ease his day (oh, oh, oh)
Easier said than done (oh, oh, oh)
I want you to make up your mind child (oh, oh, oh)
Don't bother telling me when you're done
Are you all done?

G Em C D for the chorus again

I ain't got nowhere… nowhere to hide
Sometimes I wish I could see the other side
I ain't got nowhere… nowhere to go
I'm coming down and I'm oh so alone

The whole ending is basically variations on the G Em C D riff. 1 guitar plays it as sliding power chords (focused on the high strings) and the other plays riffs based on the root notes of the riff. Example below on the A string

10--10-10-9-7--7-7-5-3--3-3-3-5-3-2-0
-------------------------------------------------3

Just play around with the root notes and you'll figure it out eventually.

(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)

The solo over the end is also follows the same pattern except higher

On the last G Em C D, skip the D and go back to G instead
Enjoy this awesome tune. Play it loud!
