why never an official live dvd release?

Is it just me or does it seem weird that this band never had an official DVD/VHS release of a live performance. Especially since they were pretty darn popular between 1992-1996. Or am I totally missing something? There is no official relase of anything of this nature is there?

Yes, it does seem weird to me too. I would love a DVD release, but there's nothing like it out there as far as I know

In regards to live releases and such, I find that it is really ODD that only 1 official live release has ever been made. Or at least the one I'm thinking of is the audio cd of "Live From Grand Forks".

Too lazy to know (or count), but how many shows have SA done? Easily 1000+ I'm thinking, but only 1 live release? Now that is WEIRD.

At the last show I was at I chatted with the merch booth person about the band selling live recordings right after the show ends. I know (of) other bands that record their shows and they are for sale right afterwards (now how that actually works I don't know). But anyway, not that this particular person would have any say, but I encouraged them to relay the message about fans inquiring about those immediate live releases that other bands are doing.

I see how far that went

Benny, are you still around/with Mgmt? Any thoughts of selling live (audio) shows, either after the show ends or having them on a website for download?

Seems to me if you build it, they will come

Soul Asylum did release an official DVD! It's called 'SOUL ASYLUM: Live In Minneapolis'. It was a Best Buy exclusive DVD that came packaged with The Silver Lining! I am watching it right now. It's great! Was I the only one lucky enough to have gotten my hands on it?

What? Are you kidding me? This is the first time I hear about it.
Anyway, enjoy! ;)

oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Still doesn't count (in my books) because:

1) it was packaged with an audio release as an "extra bonus dvd". WIth that said, this wasn't packaged on it's own and you can't go out specifically looking for this

2) that above cd/dvd package was only sold at Best Buy locations, which means you can't just go out and buy this (now) as those copies are all gone. Yes secondhand you could probably still get it

But yes it is dvd (concert) live content so you are correct, however it was bundled with an audio cd and still doesn't count, or even if it did, that would put the band up to 1.5 shows of live material officially released (as this particular dvd was only 5 songs anway)

Still not enough in my books.

Live from the Archives I say! Why not? What have they got to loose?

This might be a legal issue because of the band being on so many different labels.
That being said this for me is also a strange area when it comes to the band.

Why not more live material released audio or video ?

That's one of my main reasons for sharing my collection as much as I do.

I am working on a DVD collection that I was talking about here:

I do hope that one day an Official DVD release does come out but for now it's left up to the fans. :)

An official DVD set may never see the light of day but I think this might be the next best thing.

This will be up for a limited time - It's almost 4 hours long.

Enjoy
