is anybody else on here going to oysterfest? i'm planning on making it but i won't be able to get there much earlier than the band goes on so i'm worried i won't be able to get up near the stage at all (also worrying about parking and stuff but i'll have to make my local Milford friend figure that stuff out for me :) )

Yes, I'll be there. Don't worry about parking ,or getting a good spot or not, just go and enjoy the show. I too don't plan to sit through the Heart cover band or whoever else is playing either. Us northeasterners are lucky to be so picky this year! You'll be able to get close enough, one need not be on the front rail to have a good time. And they are headlining, so there's a chance of hearing some cool stuff.

You'll regret it if you don't go, and they play Stranger, or something else rare. One of my favorite shows ever was the freebie in New Haven 2 or 3 years ago, when it rained, and they did 2.5 "rain" cover songs, impromptu. Us regular fans were quite far from the stage as the sponsors got the front section, but that didn't affect enjoying it for me.

This was a fun show, more than I expected from a festival show. The guys seemed to be in happy moods, cracking lots of jokes at their guitar tech's expense. No Tommy, but Pete from the Figgs was a worthy replacement for the Replacement.

Setlist:

Somebody to Shove
All Is Well
Misery--with Silly Love Songs at the end
Lately
Cartoon
Gone Till November--Dave said he would vote for Wyclef Jean if he (Dave) lived in Haiti since Wyclef wants to run for president there. This led to some comments about what Jesse Ventura did for the city of Minneapolis, with Dan making a crack about a monorail.

Whatcha Need--So this was dedicated to Jesse the Body Ventura, and Dave was looking forward to playing this because it has his lead. During the banter with Michael, the suggestions for what people needed included funnel cake, legal or illegal substances, some sandwich that Michael had before the show, and guitar lessons from Terry the guitar tech. However, we got Dave's big lead, and at the end of the song, he did that finger wiggling thing toward his guitar like he did on SNL in 1993.

We were then informed that Terry was offering $10 guitar lessons after the show and people could learn Dragon Force. This seemed a bit like an inside joke.

Black Gold--Dave started to dedicate this to Vic Chesnutt and the birds of the New Orleans and/or Gulf Region, prompting someone, I think Michael, to start singing Bird is the Word by the Trashmen. Then Dave said he was at the wrong spot in the setlist for the Vic dedication, so he dedicated the song to Dan instead.

Without a Trace--This was dedicated to Karl. Dave said something about Karl and oysters, but I didn't understand what. Near the end of the song, when it gets quiet and Dave sings "you left without a trace," I thought he looked upward. I wondered if he was directing that line to Karl.

When I Ran Off and Left Her--So now Dave was in the right spot in the setlist and dedicated the Vic Chesnutt song to Vic. I haven't heard this live before, so that was a real treat.

Gravity--The guys said this was "by request" and I assume they meant Judith's "Gravity" sign that was clearly visible from where we were up front. While they were setting up for this song, Dave made his pirate joke. Sigh.

Just Like Anyone--Dave kept pointing to the guys to sing their backup lines. That was funny.

Oxygen--Dave said he liked the various signs in the audience. In addition to Judith's sign, there was another that had Closer to the Stars (Dave said they'd get to that one) on one side and Summer of Drugs (Dave said they didn't know that song anymore) on the other.

Into the Light--It was cool to hear this live after hearing it posted yesterday.

We were then informed that Terry the guitar tech isn't really named Terry but there's an inside joke in which they call him Terry.

Never Really Been--the year's 2023 now
Runaway Train
Closer to the Stars--by request. The sign owner cheered.
Stand Up and Be Strong--looked like a fun time on stage. Dave also asked Judith's friend if he knew how to play guitar...guess Dave saw his air guitar skills!

No encore as there was apparently a 5:15 curfew. :(

For those that are interested: Dave had large holes in the knees of his jeans and Dan was somewhat openy-shirty. Actually, so was Pete.

Nice to see Judith, Rob, John, and Nicole again. Sorry I left quickly...I was worried about catching the shuttle bus since they were supposed to stop at 6pm.

Nicole, did I take enough notes? :)

Awesome, awesome show! "Gravity" sounded GREAT, as did "Step Into the Light."

Dave and Dan were their usual gracious selves after the show. When I told Dan we were enjoying the recordings of the new songs from Mankato -- with permission, of course -- he sort of groaned. He said he was happy we had them, "but there are recorded versions where we actually sound like we know what we're doing." I told him if he wanted to make those available, we'd be very happy to have them. :-)

Thanks Sarah for posting the set list!

Welcome to the site and forum, Musicofourheart, and thank you for participating and sharing your pics.

However, your captions on Flicker need some corrections. That wasn't Tommy on bass, and that last pic needs an urgent correction of Dan's last name. It's Dan Murphy, not Dan Conrad. :)
