Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
Does anyone have a time recommendation to start lining up for this show?
Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
probably going with four friends. if so, I will definitely record it. if you see me, don't say "hi," but feel free to wave.
Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
This is my second time seeing them at Mohegan Sun. I didn't get a seat this time, so was stuck outside in the casino area.
They opened w/ Marionette. I half missed it because I was waiting for the line to start moving for them to let people in. Bummer. It seemed like a lackluster way to open the show, perhaps that was because I was trying to figure out if I were getting into the arena or not.
Once I got settled, I started my recording half way through the second song. ( I think Somebody to Shove).
I don't have a full setlist, but it seems to have been comparable to recent set lists. I Did My Best and New World were played, which are ones I haven't heard live yet.
They did something in the middle of Black Gold which I didn't recognize.
They played Gravity (much improved since the last time I saw it; definitely their strongest of the three new ones), and I think Into the Lights.
The band looked like they were having a lot of fun, but I think I've seen them put on better performances.
Right before Just Like Anyone I got yelled at for recording and they made me turn it off / put it away. I lost the last two songs ( Just Like Anyone and Crazy Mixed Up World). I didn't have a chance to listen to what is there, though.
The person next to me sung during Cartoon, but not Runaway Train. I was amused by that.
If anyone wants to put the time in to 'cut/mp3/distribute' my "master" recordings, I can get you the files.

Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
Fun show! Good to see Nicole, Judith, Rob, Mary, and Brian again.
Marionette--probably the first time I heard this at a show
Somebody to Shove
All is Well--a song about chicks and feelings according to Dan
Into the Light
Lately
Cartoon--preceded by new jokes about g-strings (the clothing vs. the guitar string) and mice having small balls
Gone Till November--Dave seems to be pro-Wyclef being president of Haiti
Whatcha Need--We got a lesson on wants (e.g. a new car) vs. needs (a crack addict needing crack). A list of things the audience may want or need: drumsticks (chicken, turkey, or actual sticks to hit drums), Michael playing the drums with 10 drumsticks, a professional show, tech guy Matt crawling around the drum set, Matt supplying quality help, and a lead from Dave's telecaster approved by Michael Bland.
Black Gold--dedicated to those who fucked up the Gulf of Mexico. Included a few lines from "Keep My Love Alive" as a nod to the Heart cover band singer who was the sound board monitor (?) tonight. The cover band played before SA at the Milford Oyster Fest last summer.
Without a Trace--dedicated to Karl, who according to Dave would have said, "Holy fuck I can't believe we're here!" Dave also kind of hinted it would be nice to be asked back to the Wolf Den next year.
New World
When I Ran off and Left Her--dedicated to anyone who's ever felt like they were different
Gravity
Misery with some lines of an unknown cover song at the end--Dave was happy to collect a guitar pick that had a Jason face on it.
I Did My Best
Runaway Train
Just Like Anyone--according to Dave, perhaps the only song about doing one's business in an outhouse that actually charted
Stand Up and Be Strong--the big highlight was Dave giving his guitar to Judith's friend Ken to play. Looked like he enjoyed that rock star moment!
This is what I can decipher from my notes at 1:41 am. Goodnight all.

I will be away this week, so I'll have to wait 'til after then to post a proper set of photos from this show. It was great fun catching up with everyone. The show wasn't all that different from last year, but changing up a few songs from the set, and new stage banter, made for a renewed vibe. On the flipside, the show was shorter than usual here. I wonder if the early start and end times are going to be constant here on in. The venue was pretty firm about ending by 9:30 and no encore. Still , Mohegan Sun seems to be one of the most looked-forward to shows in the Northeast, drawing a pretty sizable group of die-hard fans each year. Moreso than the other shows I've seen in the last few years. It's the "Holiday Show" for those of us who don't get to Minnesota.
Soundcheck was:
1. Spooky (Dan vocals, just a verse or two)
2. I Did My Best (instrumental)
3. I Did My Best
4. When I Ran Off and Left Her
5. Into the Light
6. Marionette
7. The Streets
8. Gravity
The Streets was on the printed setlist and the lyrics were on Dave's monitor, but the song was not played in the actual set. It sounded great in sound check!

Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
Made the trip from Long Island, NY yesterday and as expected, it was TOTALLY worth it. Soul Asylum has been my favorite band since I was 12 years old and I still get blown away everytime I see them live!
I think yesterday was my 13th time seeing them! It's incredible when I think of my life when I first got into them and I think about where I am now in my life- and how they've played such an important role. I used to have my parents drive me and come with me to see them live, and now I drive hours upon hours with my wife, just to see them. Pretty darn cool!

Incredibly fun night. This is always one of my favorite shows and attracts such a great group of die-hard fans. It's become like a reunion and Ii was so great to see Kenn, Rob, Bill, Mary, Sarah, Nichole, Mike, and others.
I had gotten some very bad news right before this show and almost skipped it, but am so glad I went. I was a bit out of sorts while waiting in line, but by the time sound check rolled around, I knew I made the right decision to come. I'm glad we got to hear The Streets during sound check, and hope they keep working on it so that they get comfortable enough to include it in the set. Meanwhile, Gravity keeps sounding better and better.
Kenn getting on stage to "play" guitar during SUABS was epic. And Dave was in such good form.
Thanks everyone for making this such a great night.

Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
printed setlist reads as follows:
MARIONETTE
SOMEBODY TO SHOVE
ALL IS WELL
INTO THE LIGHT
LATELY
CARTOON
WHATCHA NEED
BLACK GOLD
WITHOUT A TRACE
NEW WORLD
RAN OFF AND LEFT HER
GRAVITY
THE STREETS
MISERY
I DID MY BEST
RUNAWAY TRAIN
JUST LIKE ANYONE
STAND UP AND BE STRONG
The Streets wasn't played, but I think the rest is right. When I Ran Off And Left Her and New World were awesome, but, sadly, the built-in battery of the recorder no longer holds a three-hour charge -- it only lasted thirty minutes. I'm am calling the company about this, because I do not like it. anyway, only got through Cartoon. sucks that the other taper got caught. I'll get the two newish songs mixed and posted sometime soon. the boys did not want to be there. they rushed through the set and took no breaks. after just three songs, Dave was complaining about having "nothing to say to these people." didn't rival the 2008 show there, but it was fun and a good performance, for the most part. I am very sorry that I failed to properly record. M-Audio had better offer to replace the battery parts....
sorry, folks.
