2011 Feb. 19th - Wolf Den, Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT
Re: CT mohegan sun FEB 19, 2011
I'm not sure what vibe you caught, but the lack of encore had nothing to do with the band "not wanting to be there." I didn't find Dave to be any less talkative than usual. I thought he was kinda poking fun of the fact he's been saying the same stuff show after show actually... The venue was strict about them ending on time. The printed setlist did not have an encore on there, so it wasn't like a long set got cut short. It was suggested afterward that the venue doesn't make money with all these people watching the show,* they want you out gambling. Might explain the earlier starting/ending time this year. If it ends later, people will go straight to their cars, but if it ends early, people might hang around and gamble.
* Only a small number of people got into the seating area before the show. Most of the tables appeared to be reserved for high rollers. And if they didn't show by 8:15 or so, then regular folk got let in. Seems like the free shows are mostly a reward for gamblers who spend a lot of money there.

I also thought the band was having lots of fun up there. Of course, I wish they played longer too.
Not to hijack the thread, what equipment do you use to record? I have a Handy H4 and use the built in mics. It's the best "Bootlegger" I've used, although not the most stealth. Traditionally my experience with M-Audio equipment has been top notch, but I never had a recording device from them (or one that needs a battery).

it's a Microtrack II and I loved it until the battery died. in the first month it held for three hours. after six months it held for under two hours. a year in, it could barely do an hour. now it's useless. there are no screws nor hinges, so I can't figure out how to open the thing up. pretty lame. the 2008 show from there came out so well and this one sounds good, but incomplete shows are my nemesis.

BTW, littletooclean if you didn't get my e-mail w/ the link to the downloads, check your spam filters. I haven't heard anything back, and wanted to clear it out of my drop box account.
Actually, for everyone who cares:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7170790/LiveJeffryRecorded.rar
But, be warned, these are my original recordings, uncut, unedited, and not turned into mp3s. The zip is 1.6 GB .
While I'm thinking of it; what is the song "Spooky" that someone said was played during sound check?

Awesome pics Rob! Can't wait to see the rest!
What an amazing nite! Still can't believe I was a band member for 5 minutes!

I just figured out that the Misery tag was from a song called After Hours, by the Velvet Underground:
"If you close the door, the night could last forever
Leave the sunshine out and say hello to never"
Spooky is by the Atlanta Rhythm Section. It's often covered by the Golden Smog in their live shows.

They opened w/ Marionette. I half missed it because I was waiting for the line to start moving for them to let people in. Bummer. It seemed like a lackluster way to open the show, perhaps that was because I was trying to figure out if I were getting into the arena or not.
Once I got settled, I started my recording half way through the second song. ( I think Somebody to Shove).
I don't have a full setlist, but it seems to have been comparable to recent set lists. I Did My Best and New World were played, which are ones I haven't heard live yet.
They did something in the middle of Black Gold which I didn't recognize.
They played Gravity (much improved since the last time I saw it; definitely their strongest of the three new ones), and I think Into the Lights.
The band looked like they were having a lot of fun, but I think I've seen them put on better performances.
Right before Just Like Anyone I got yelled at for recording and they made me turn it off / put it away. I lost the last two songs ( Just Like Anyone and Crazy Mixed Up World). I didn't have a chance to listen to what is there, though.
The person next to me sung during Cartoon, but not Runaway Train. I was amused by that.
If anyone wants to put the time in to 'cut/mp3/distribute' my "master" recordings, I can get you the files.
