Debated whether to share this...but what the **

Thanks to SA I have a friend from Iowa, met him at the Surf ballroom show 4-5 years ago. He took something like 500 pictures that show/ sent them to me, we have stayed in touch through e-mails and bumping into each other at SA the last few years.

Talked to him after the entry show; we missed after the 1st Ave show, so he e-mailed and we went back and forth.

He asked what I thought of the show, this is part of his first e-mail…
...No great photos to share from this show – didn’t even bring in the camera, knew wouldn’t get close enough. We were quite a ways back, closer to the doors than to the stage… I was standing next to some old dude jotting notes in a notebook so talked with him some. Turns out he was writing for the star trib blog, nothing too exciting in there. Though I guess I’m the “hardcore fan” he references.

I return; say pretty much what I said above…

He then returns **
...it was one of the strangest shows I’ve been to. At one point I looked at my buddy *** and asked “this is an album release show, right?” cuz he hadn’t mentioned it at all. The star trib guy actually said to me that he thought they played too many new songs?! We thought for sure he’d address the issues too, everyone around us was confused to say the least

The rest of the e-mail chain isn’t pertinent or has already been stated.

Nothing else to add concerning the show...

Tracy ** loved the pix, he's the "coolest" 9 year old around. :) he'll have quite a story tell to his class this fall when the teacher asks what did everyone do that was fun this summer.

It's been a week since this show and I still don't even know what to say. Best night ever. Seriously.

Anyway, I know I already posted the link in another thread, but since I like to push my photography like a sick dog that needs a home, here's a few pics from last Friday night for anyone that didn't see them yet:

I took over 600 total in MPLS and probably 100 at the concert, but I just put up my best ones.

Sorry I've been AWOL for so long. I was pretty upset that I wasn't able to make arrangements to get to any of the recent Minnesota shows. Sadly, ALL of my potential drivers/concert going companions are employed and were out of available vacation time (O.K., my Dad is retired, so is a regular driver for local events, but he's close to 70, & I really didn't think he'd be appropriate for, nor appreciate, driving that far, driving in the Minneapolis traffic, and taking me to a concert, esp since I'd insist on being right at the rail, if I got there in time to still find a hole there.) I REALLY wish I could at least have been able to attend the 1st Ave show(partly BECAUSE of the guitar issues that happened, because I LIKE it when things go wrong & Dave has to improvise! Those kinds of things are what can make a show special, at least, to me)

In case you're not subscribed already to a local's Youtube collection, Johnnyquestions recently posted more clips from this show, including:

Love Will Tear Us Apart(in which he had a mic mishap, but it is nice to see/hear, even with his mic issue):

and.... MARIONETTE!!!!

20questions. if you happen to BE Johnnyquestions (who posted Johnnyquestions' clip for Closer To The Stars earlier, with Dave's hissy over his guitar, I hope I haven't offended you by posting your clips here, when you had chosen not to for some reason

Thanks for posting the video's. Great to see it was as awesome as I remember. And all my favorite songs. I will have to look up the hissy fit as somehow in my general enjoyment, I missed it entirely.

Wish I had known, but somehow glad I did not. What an awesome show! Thanks for playing it for us! Stealing from lucky little lady on another thread. "something that's been making me feel better is, not surprisingly, a quote from Dr. Seuss: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

Feeling like you were playing for Marionette for me, warms my cockels as another person said. (Not sure I have cockels, Danny Boy)

:D :D :D
