As far as I know, Paul doesn't drive...

Haven't seen anything up here yet about last night's show, but I'm sure Jamie (Sometime to Return) will be posting the setlist soon since he was writing diligently in his notebook during the show! BTW, great to meet you and your wife, Jamie!

It was an absolutely beautiful night for a tent party, and Dave seemed in an especially good mood. The highlight of the night for me was when Kraig Johnson (Smog, Jayhawks, etc) got on stage and sang a couple of songs with Soul Asylum. I can't recall the first song he sang, but the second was Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash. Kraig was sporting a totally cheesy mustache that Dave ripped on. At the end of the night, I saw Dave and Kraig weaving through the crowd together like a couple of school boys up to no good. Very funny. The Honeydogs opened, and they sounded great, too. And yes, I got one of those totally cool Michael Bland lego shirts! Just an awesome night! I have a bunch of pictures I need to pull off my camera. They should be on my myspace page in a day or two.

I got a copy of the set list, but there were some embellishments to it as the night went on. It was:

Somebody to Shove
All is Well
Bittersweet Heart
Misery / Silly Love Songs
Oxygen
Lately
Cartoon
Whatcha Need
Black Gold
Without a Trace
New World
String of Pearls
Runaway Train
Slowly Rising (absolutely awesome!!!! Loved it!!!)
Bus Named Desire
Stand Up and Be Strong

Never Really Been
Started with the acoustic part of Closer to the Stars and then went into My Generation and Should I stay or Should I Go
And then Dave stepped away and they played a song I did not recognize with cheesy mustached Kraig on vocals?

The also slipped Gone Til November in there and I won't be able to tell until I see my videos where it was in the list. There was a bit of Groove Is In the Heart going on and the Wow song? that I remember someone talking about at another show

Such a great fun show - they all looked like they were having a ton of fun! And they did the "photo op's" and signing stuff after the show - Dave and Tommy did, so we got photos and talked with them etc. Great great fun time!!!

Oh, and by the way, the official word from Dave's mouth is that it is indeed "Universal Press" - so I told him, so you mean to tell me I've been wrong about this for over half my life!!! : ) And he said that they "hope" to have some new music out soon.

I'll be busy putting videos on youtube in the next couple of days- I just got home and I'm getting unpacked and ready to go back to work. We have a ton! So I'll let you all know when there are some up.

And it was great meeting and talking with you Todd / Swendo! : ) I'll get your photo with the boys out my camera and email it to you very soon too!!!

Tracy great to meet you and your husband; John. Maybe we'll run into you at the zoo show. My four year old son loved my new “lego shirt.”  How about yours?

The only other song they played (my list isn’t with me; right now); was the opening of “Cocaine Blues.”

yeah I picked up one of those tshirts as well, and my 8yr old was wondering if they were selling smaller sizes that would fit him.

Benny, are there any kids sizes?

Being it was an outdoor show in early May, I'd have to say the weather coorperated quite nicely! Gotta love that old stanky lake smell wafting through that tent from time to time though, anyone else catch a wiff of that ??

Oh yeah, the show was great!

I'd like to chime in on that Encore set though. Here's how it went down:

Nevery Really Been
Closer to the Stars (at the acoustic>electric guitar switch over, Dave abruptly stopped the song, Kraig Johnson walked out and they rip into):
My Revolution (The Who) with KJ on lead vocals
Should I Stay or Should I Go Now (Clash) with KJ on lead vocals
Dang Me (Golden Smog song pretty sure it's a cover) with KJ on lead vocals
Just Like Anyone

See you all at the Zoo !!!
When I die I won't own crap, but my kids will have a hell of a music collection to fight over

Hey. Awesome show last Saturday. Very similar set to Grand Casino, but it was (mostly) outdoors and had a really fun feel with tons of energy. People have pretty much nailed down the set list. Just a couple notes:

- Opening music over PA and after the show was a Run Westy Run mix (Kraig's first band with his brothers and opened a ton for SA) - some Cockroach Park, David's Drum, and Green Cat Island.
- To check his sound when he came out, Tommy played the bass line for "London Calling." Of course, the font for the London Calling album is the same as an Elvis record and the same that the Replacements used for Pleased to Meet Me. When SA played that New Year's Eve show a few years back, Joe Strummer had just died and they did a bunch of Clash songs for the encore. I remember Clampdown pretty distinctly.
- They went into Gone Til November straight from the ending, chiming G chord on Cartoon, and I'm pretty sure they did the same thing at Grand Casino.
- Tommy sang lead on "My Generation" and, for me, that alone was worth the price of admission. That guy definitely did not phone in any of the show and completely rocked balls out the whole time, as did everybody else. I was standing right in front of him (wearing a Twins cap if anybody else was in that vicinity), and it was awesome.
- Dang Me is a Roger Miller (King of the Road) song. I llove the Westies, the Jayhawks stuff with Kraig and 80% of Kraig's Golden Smog stuff, but I didn't think Kraig added a ton this particular night. I would have rather seen more Dave and SA shenanigans. Nobody does a cover better than those guys.
- It was really cool meeting Lucy and her husband. That's a lot of fan bonus points for flying into a show from FLA. EntertheSA folks should try to get together for the zoo show, too, either before or after, as it's cool to hang out with other fans. If SA ever plays Duluth again, I'd be happy to host.
- It was also awesome seeing Dave and Tommy at the merch booth afterwards and getting stuff signed. I was thinking when I got my picture taken with them that I'd seen SA for the 1st time pretty much 20 years ago to the day. I hope they do the same thing at the zoo this Summer.
Great show and I hope they repeat this Summer at the Zoo.

Later,
Swendo

I must say this show was ordinary SA (pretty awesome) until the encore which was totally awesome seeing the guys playing new covers ruled. I Hadn't seen Kraig play with SA before He showed up and rocked big time. Man I love this band
