Being a faithful servant of the "Sisterhood" and the entire SA fandom, I have broken down and signed up on YouTube and did a test video with my Blackberry, as preperation and research for the Fargo show, and the video quality from my Blackberry is completely useless, so that option is out. I really don't want to take my camera into an indoor venue, where it's possible it could get confiscated, but I did, however, go ahead andupload the videos I took with it at the outdoor 9-24-2005 Nye's show with my Olympus camera, and although the quality is poor for video, it's still worth trying to share them I guess, for those that can ignore or forgive the poor quality and completely horrible cinimatography.

I mostly shot these videos as an experiment just because I happened to have the camera there and wanted to see if shooting video with it was worthwhile (barely adequate, IMO), and was more concerned with enjoying the show by watching the actual performance rather than holding up & aiming the camera properly and having to watch the show by keeping an eye on the LCD screen, not to mention that I was uncomfortable with feeling like a paparatzzi while shooting the first video, so after shooting the first one, I just let the camera hang on it's cord from my neck, aimed at the stage, and tried to not move too much. I did check it's aim occassionally, but I'm afraid that the composition does end up showing a lot of the stage roof for a lot of the videos, but even those crappy shots still usually have Dave from the waist up, so are not a TOTAL waste. Raindrops on the lens was also a problem, which is why the very ends and beginnings are clipped, so I could wipe off the rain between songs...

This was another "Dave Pirner & The Volunteers" show, so all my vids are of Dave's solo stuff, and I ran out of memory card space just before Dan arrived, so unfortunately I didn't get to shoot the historic performance of Artificial Heart.

I did, however, get other rarities, like Dave's cover of In The Ghetto, and Cruel Intentions without Dave being stuck at a keyboard (Although I love piano playing Dave for this song too, in this one he's more "campy" rather than a lounge lizzard piano playing crooner). I also got Dave's covers of It's Raining So Hard, and Iko Iko.

Here they are, in the order they were recorded, every song (I think) prior to Dan showing up to turn it into a Soul Asylum show by playing Artificial Heart

Teach Me To Breath:

Never Recover:

Faces And Names:

In The Ghetto (dispite my poor video, it's still obvious that Dave's vocal on this was awesome):

364:

Cruel Intentions:

Here ends the Dave solo portion of the program, and begins the "fun with covers" section of the setlist:
I Volunteer (correct title ?):

It's Raining So Hard:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADBFVU1PcYY

Iko Iko (not sure of it's exact title):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucq1SXAIRAc
Sadly, this one is lucky to at least show Dave's head & shoulders a lot of the time, which is unfortunate, because he had a lot of fun doing it (SORRY!)

I really am very embarassed by the quality of these vids, especially the composition(rather, the LACK of composition)but I decided to put them up anyway because of the uniqueness of some of them. I hope they are still somewhat enjoyable.

Thanks for sharing these. I've never seen a live performance of any songs from Dave's solo album, so these were great to view. :)

P.S. The link for "Teach Me to Breathe" pulls up video for "Never Recover." :(

Great to see these dells. Chance to see is worth any imperfection. Happy to hear you were enjoying it too much to make it perfect. My first views of these songs live too. Hope to get a chance to see in person someday...

I think it's safe to bring digital cameras to pretty much any venue these days..given the proliferation of iphones and other multi-tasking gadgets. Even if the artist is dead set against people taking photos, I've found the venues to not confiscate cameras at the door, but only if people use them after persistent warnings not to. So you should usually be safe to at least bring it. And if in doubt and you do try to sneak in some pix, don't use your flash!
