Glad we will see you at the Show Jim, We are picking up tickets there too. I want safehouse, Scot wants Brew pub. So we are split 50/50 all arround. I think you all have my number so lets fight it out by phone. Phil and Scot could go to the Brew Pub and Tied and I can go to Safehouse. I don't think anything in Milwaukee is more than ten min. away.

Hey Jim… I remembered. ;)

What a great night! The guys delivered yet another high energy, jaw-dropping performance. I thought it was way cool to hit the stage with “Just Like Anyone.” I’m used to them playing that at the end of the set. And I was really psyched to hear “I Did My Best!” That has always been one of my favorite songs. Too bad the casino was so strict about taking pictures and taping, I would have loved to relive the show on you tube.

I also wanted to say “Hey” to all the awesome people I met and talked with last night. Soul Asylum fans are the coolest and nicest people on earth!

I agree it was a good show, but what was up with Dave's guitar? I enjoyed the usual variety of tunes, but no Oxygen again?! What's up with that?!

Great show and great to see all. Glad you are now on board Wendy ;) .
Funny thing is a bad night for Dave (Blankety, blankety, blank!) is still my best night in 10 months!! Loved the "new" song! I can't believe I finally heard Chevy Van!

Much fun!

I agree that it was a really fun show and it was great to get some unusual songs -- i.e., "I Did My Best" in the set, and "Chevy Van," "Cocaine Blues," and "Final Solution" in the encore. i was also very happy that "Sometime to Return" is back in the set, because that has always been a highlight and I am always thrilled when they do "Closer to the Stars."

But I can't pretend that it didn't make me uncomfortable to see Dave so pissed off. I can understand that he's a perfectionist and that the guitar problems had to be frustrating. But he was so visibly irritated. Walking off stage didn't bother me so much, but it was just awful to see him phone it in on several songs -- skipping his usual Davisms and looking like he just wanted to get through it and get out of there.

In my head I was thinking, "Please shake it off. We love you so much and it is always such a thrill to see you. We are not judging you for technical difficulties – we just want to see you play. Please have a good time because we are!"

I hope that came through from the crowd anyway.

I was really happy that he did rally, and I appreciate the effort that must have taken. The Closer to the Stars/Sometime to Return/Somebody to Shove section of the show was so high-energy. And he clearly gave 120% on the encore. It was great to see Dave and Danny laughing during Chevy Van. I cracked up myself.

So a good show and certainly an interesting one, but his distress made me feel quite anxious for part of the evening. I don't know if I was the only one who felt that way.

No matter how many shows I go to, every one is still special to me - especially when I don't know when the next one will be. And there are always going to be unexpected variables and curveballs, and sometimes that's what makes a show exceptional. But seeing Dave so upset is something I never want. :(

BTW, I heard several people speculating about whether "Final Solution" was a new song. It was actually a cover of a Pere Ubu song.

My feelings on this show are kind of mixed... It wasn't a bad show, I mean it was still Soul Asylum playing, and they played some great songs and everything else, but it definitely pales in comparison to many of the other shows I've seen them do.

As judith had said, dave was really not in a very good mood at the start of the show. He was having technical problems, and for most of the show he wasn't playing on his normal guitar. When they didn't go into silly love songs after misery you could kind of see it, and then there was the time when he just walked off the stage for a minute. It just wasn't his night. I left this show with mixed feelings. The ending ended up good, and they were having fun again, but it sucks watching them go through the motions at times. A bit too predictable, and didn't really have the full energy that he normally had. I think more than anything, what hit me was the fact that they went through the entire show without dedicating a song to Karl. During the songs Dave would normally dedicate to Karl (Without a Trace, Runaway Train), Dave was really just walking through the motions. This was the first time since Karl died that I've seen them go without dedicating a song to him, and it was kind of odd. I also remember some of my favorite songs like New World really lacking what they normally had, just not the greatest of times. However, it was great to see I Did My Best, even if Dave wasn't doing his best...

Howerver, things did turn around. I managed to take a picture of the setlist from someone who got it, it wasn't quite right, but I think I can fill in the gaps:

Just Like Anyone
Bittersweetheart (i think this was second, but it could have been a bit later)
Easy Street
All Is Well
Misery
Lately (with an extended intro)
Black Gold
Without a Trace
New World
Cartoon (Oxygen was on the list but wasn't played)
Watcha' Need (no joking with michael)
I Did My Best
String of Pearls
Runaway Train
Closer To The Stars
Sometime To Return
Somebody To Shove
Stand Up and Be strong

encore:
Chevy Van (made it most of the way through it and were like I can't believe we know this one)
Cocaine Blues (only did maybe 45 seconds of this)
Final Solution

The ending of this show was really strong, and I think the encore really lightened up Dave's spirits or something. We were all hoping for Stranger to make its way in there, but no such luck.

I took a couple pictures at the start of the show before security stopped me. No videos this time. I'll post the few pictures I did take in a bit.
