In the works!! Have been planning on since I thought there was no where closer, but my credit cards are groaning... Son now is at Marquette (so proud!) but too young to go (double dang, but he has seen before, and is actually a big Mastedon fan). Am trying to plan family weekend LKG (Lake Geneva). So will probably go for the show and drive down there. Still closer than Chi town. Some thoughts of staying at "Part of me wants to be here!" Doubt I have enough gambling credits... where do I apply for beer drinking credits?!?!

PS.. next time email me.
PPSS..I like RUSH too, just not in concert.

That is awesome.
i was right in front of the stage near dave when this happened. dave actually didn't look like he was kidding when he mocked the yelling. It looked like he was annoyed by the yelling out of his name. It was in fun when the ladies screamed for him. perhaps he was uncomfortable by it? A strange reaction from him i thought from something so minor and in obvious tribute.

It wasn't as bad as the a-hole who ran up to the front of the stage at the end of the show. He yelled SA sucks. He was a real piece of work.

oh and i have to say I do not like the band Rush, in any shape or form.

To be fair, the guy never said SA sucks... The crew was busy dismantling the stage and he runs up to the stage and yells "you guys suck" .. . One of the roadies looked down at him and said "I'm not even in the band" or something like that... Whoever it was who ran up to the front of the stage afterward likely had a painful morning the next day though...

actually he said soul asylum sucks. my girlfriend told the roadies right then that they (SA) were awesome and not listen to the guy. the one event roadie said to her I am not even with the band. She said even so you guys are doing a great job anyway. I do agree the guy who said it probably wouldn't recall the deed the next morning.

hey did you see that other drunken fool that kept getting onstage trying to wish his buddy a happy bday on the mic?

he kept asking the von bondies to wish his friend a happy bday and then he was asking Dan Murphy. The best though was after the Von Bondies set and before Dan was onstage checking his guitar. The guy got onstage for what must have been the 2nd time at least.

It was during the breakdown/setup before SA went on. he walks over to the mic like he's one of the roadie's or event staff. He starts standing there talking into the mic, "Check, check." The other roadies didn't even notice him at first! This guy steve who was next to me was like what are you doing onstage to the guy? I didn't even realize that the guy was just some fool who snuck up onstage! The other staff noticed him and escorted him off the stage. They told him he would be arrested the next time went up there. I am not sure by who though. I didn't see much security or police anywhere at the whole fest. This type of stuff takes people watching to a whole new level.

And btw Soul Asylum rocked yet again. I agree I hope we see some of the nice lost or not oft played gems at the Potowatomi show. i.e., Black Star, See You Later, Stranger, Easy Street, Sometime to Return, etc. I now wish I'd gone to the MN Zoo show!

The show was really good. The band seemed to be in good spirits, having fun, and playing well. Unfortunately Dave's monitor (which I was standing next to) seemed to buzz a bit more than it should have, and from where I was his guitar didn't quite sound right. Other than that things were good. Here follows the setlist, intermingled with notes

1. Somebody To Shove
2. All Is Well
3. Misery/Silly love songs
4. Lately with this really weird extended intro to it. Don't really no how to describe it
5. Black Gold - before this song some girls in the audience were yelling out DAVE oh my god.. and so Dave goes up to the mic and mocks them with an "oh my god.. it's dave"
6. A Blues jam of sorts... not sure what they were playing, or if they were just goofing around
7. Without a Trace -dedicated to Karl
8. New World
9. Just like anyone - in the key of D for Dave Dan and DRUNK
10. Cartoon / Gone Till November (they played the entirety of Gone Till November in this "medley"
11. Watcha Need - in the what do you need michael section of this song, he said Oysters... and a big pack of trojans for afterward. Was rather amusing.
12. String of Pearls - before this song dave was having some technical difficulties and the rest of the band starts playing a bit fooling around, and dave makes a joke about playing some Rush and starts singing a verse from Tom Sawyer
13. Never Really Been
14. Runaway Train
15. Closer to the stars - started acoustic, dave switched to electric early on
16. Bittersweetheart - lots of hip shaking, della would have been happy
17. Slowly Rising
18. Stand Up and Be Strong - one of the crew joined them on stage.. not sure who

There was no encore at the show. I think the band kind of wanted to, and the crowd wanted one, but I don't think they were allowed to continue playing...

Phil

Oh yeah i forgot to mention! My girlfriend asked for a copy of the setlist after the show and they gave her one. I noticed at one point danny was playing a riff like he was going to start a tune and dave said no and tommy, michael and dave all were talking to him. It also happened when they were going to start one tune and danny was ready to do watcha need. It looks like they dropped Oxygen from their set list. it is on the list but wasnn't played.

I had forgotten to mention that in my writeup. I'm pretty sure oxygen was suppose to be after cartoon or something, and I remember them saying something about well I guess we skipped oxygen huh?

Yeah I wonder why it was skipped? It did seem they were rushed from the stage towards the end. maybe the powers that be wanted the stage tore down by a certain time and have them off due to the noise because of the residents? either way it would have been nice to hear that one!

Great Show, Great Crowd, lots of fun.

Of course you're going to get a few idiots in the crowd, but overall it was fun.
I was lucky to get parking since I was late but everything worked out.

Talked a few minutes with Jim & Phil up front just before the show started.
Great night to be outdoors in Chicago seeing Soul Asylum rock it out.

Now I've got that Soul Asylum Live bug again - I should be at the Milwaukee show if everything works out right.

Yes, I definately would have been happy, but I think you actually intended to say Laura, as she's the most vocal about the Bittersweetheart hip shaking (not that I don't also deeply appreciate it, :) )

dells
I can't WAIT for the hip shakin. Holey man!

Hahahhaha… Can anyone explain this to me, please??
When we were in Lima, listening to some music, they played Rush in the radio and I told Dave that I liked that band…. And he couldn’t believe it, I think he was a little bit upset, hahahaha… So, I guess he really dislikes Rush, but I don’t know why!!! :!: :?: :?:
Considering it was a loooooooooooong time ago I might be wrong about this, but I seem to remember Dave getting in some kind of altercation at an MTV event, a birthday party (his?????someone elses???? can't remember) with a bunch of canadians over Rush, and being booted out.

There was some kind of anti Rush remark, made by Dave, followed by a would be lynching, resulting in his being dragged off the premises and spirited away.

Now....as I said, this memory just popped into existence and could easily be something that's been mixed up over the years and could have nothing to do with Dave at all.

But.......I think it's right lol.

Someone should google it. I have to go to work.
