In the past week I have started to add more to the live show archive.
The first one I have added is something that I have wanted to share since I first heard it around 2 years ago!
One thing I can say about Soul Asylum, from the very first show I attended, they like to have fun onstage and if your going to be a smart ass or tell them what to do, they will be a bigger smart ass then you and not do what they were TOLD to do. It's a vibe thing for them and if you mess with it, they will mess with you, all in good fun!
Also if you ever went to a show during the " Hang Time " tour or a show at a college campus from '88-'91 they kinda ended up being a lot like wrestling matches with LOTS of drunk college kids. AAHH the old days
Anyway
April 15 1988 - University of Minnesota
The show: As a concert goer and a musician I can tell you the one thing you don't want to do before, and during a show is insult the crowd and tell them you will shut the show down if you don't do what we tell you.
Before the show starts security comes onstage to tell the crowd there is no "slam dancing" at the show. 4 songs later the band is interrupted to tell the crowd " Security is on hand and They WILL turn the lights on and shut down the show if the crowd does not stop "slam dancing". Next you hear "Lunch Time" . They must have turned the lights on
As the show continues it's seems like everytime they try to stop the crowd the band ROCKS one out!
Comments from the band continue and at one point the security comes onstage again to worn again about NO slam dancing again and in proper Soul Asylum form they rip into "Long Way Home".
CLASSIC show
Great set list
I've added a short clip of some of what I'm taking about.
