when some of us post, instead of showing us the forum with the "posted" message, it's displaying the html for the site instead. refreshing the page puts it back to normal, and so does patience as sometimes it reverts back to the normal display after a few seconds.

That sounds very odd, and I'm sad to say that it's probably a bug connected to the mechanics of phpBB combined with your particular browser setup, because I've never experienced anything like that.
If you find out more about it, let me know.

I think this is the error in question:

We've now reinstalled the forum, so things should start working better. If problems pop up anyway, just let us know. We may have been mistaken about the forum ranks: it seems like phpBB doesn't allow for users to select ranks on their own. It's possible that we'll have to set them on a user-by-user basis like before. Alright, so here's the situation on ranks: The phpBB system assigns rank depending on the amount of posts a user has. I've set the thresholds to be: - Up to 10 posts: Newcomer
- 10-50 posts: Resident
- 50 posts or more: Inmate
If you want the O'Jeezer rank, you'll have to PM me or Monolith Maniac. _________________ Jakob Kallin, webmaster of Enter the Soul Asylum.com

Lately, while I've been going through the forum, I keep getting logged out. Strangely enough, my name still appears on the bottom as online thought I'm not. I'd understand if this happened because I was inactive, but that is not the case. Even when I'm active, I get logged out. Anyone face this yet? Any idea why it happens?

If you have multiple browsers, does it happen across all of them?

I noticed it first with Firefox which is what I always use. When I logged in using IE, I was automatically logged out again while making my way to this thread. I logged in again to reply.
When I clicked Submit, I got logged out. Even when I logged in again to paste my message and hit submit, I got logged out again.
Now I'm logged in again using Firefox. (Thank God for Copy and Paste!)

Things like these typically occur when the browser is set to not accept cookies. In Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Privacy and make sure the browser is configured to accept cookies. If that doesn't work, let me know.
It's also possible—though unlikely—that an antivirus application is restricting use of cookies. Did you install any recently?

Both of my browsers are allowed to accept cookies, though IE isn't allowed to accept third-party cookies. I haven't downloaded any new anti-virus software recently though if wonder if its a recent automatic update to that software that's responsible for the log-offs. Nothing else makes sense because these automatic logoffs didn't start happening until today.

We can check to see if your browser does in fact store cookies for the forum or not: In Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Privacy, then click Show Cookies and enter enterthesoulasylum in the search field. In the list that appears, are there any cookies with phpbb3 in their name?
