golden smog

Post by zany »

just wanted to share that the Pandora Golden Smog 'channel' is really hitting the spot for me right now.

some whiskeytown song (crazy ..you?) was just on, and some other son volt songs made me glance up to see who it was. anyways - glad i finally figured out that i can get pandora on my tv (i'm slow).

Almost all greek to me. There is a Golden Smog channel. Do they have enough songs for that?

I haven't used pandora myself, but I've occasionally listened to some last.fm stations for different artists. Sounds like some good stuff came on while you were listening. I love myself some whiskeytown and son volt. son volt even sort of has a smog connection in that jim boquist played for son volt, and he was in the original take it to the limit band back in '87 (dave, dan, jim, martin zellar). Check out the smog story poster for more backstory...

Pandora is an awesome thing if you are interested in exploring new music. I discovered that I really, really like Ryan Adams, all because of Pandora injecting his work into my mix and infecting me. Talented fucker, wish I was there to see that meltdown at First Ave.

I love the Golden Smog station as well as stations I have set up for Paul Westerberg and Jay Farrar. If you put in Soul Asylum though, you pretty much get popular 90's music and maybe some of the GDU hits thrown in. That part sucks, it's the same with the Replacements, you get a lot of good stuff, but it's all stuck in a time frame and ignores solo careers and non hit songs.

Does anybody wonder why we can't have a Golden Smog festival? I mean all the bands related through the Smog play a huge show that ends with a mega Smog ensemble just going nuts with guitars. I would think that these guys would love a family gathering like this. Jeff couldn't be too busy with Wilco, because they would be playing the show as well in a different slot. Hell, let's get Son Volt there as well, but nobody ask for a Uncle Tupelo reunion, we don't wanna scare them off... heh, I can dream right.
Would you look into my eyes if I were to go blind?

yeah, as much as your idea sounds awesome, i think you explained why it wouldn't work. Besides, I think JEFF TWEEDY thinks too highly of himself and would want wilco to highlight the show, rather than the smog... Maybe that's just how I see things though.

How close to Kevin Bacon can we get?

Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy were in Uncle Tupelo.

Uncle Tupelo broke up and Wilco and Son Volt were born - Tweedy = Wilco, Jay Farrar = Son Volt.

Jeff Tweedy is in Golden Smog.

Boom.

PS I Love Son Volt! (more so than Wilco for sure!) I saw them a couple of years ago and they were so good! I saw Uncle Tupelo on their last tour as well. This is the kind band that I think Dave and the boys need to hook up with. How about an SSS tour - Son Volt, Slobberbone, Soul Asylum? Alliteration is good!

It looked like a bot was a little useful in making your post. It revived it (from over a year ago) and made you decide to make your own post in it not even an hour later (unless you were thinking about Golden Smog when the bot was). :P

That's so funny! I didn't even notice. I guess I thought the Golden Smog topic emerged since everyone is thinking about Dan right now. And I know Phil saw Son Volt recently, so it all made sense :)
