Favorite Xmas Music

Post by Miss Fitt 2 »

I love Christmas, but I have to admit I'm tired of most xmas songs after hearing them over and over. Still, there are some xmas albums that are just fantastic. My favorites are probably Ella Fitzgerald's Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas and Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas. The Phil Spector Christmas album is, of course, another classic.

As for more contemporary stuff, I'm currently digging Duvall's xmas album, which I heard for the first time this year. (Duvall features two of the Smoking Popes.) I really wish the Cocteau Twins did a Christmas album because the two songs they have done -- Frosty the Snowman and Winter Wonderland -- are just exquisite.

What are your favorite xmas albums?

Color me a geek but I like the Beach Boys Christmas Album. I have it on vinyl so we listen on Christmas night when the kids are in bed and not jumping around. Nothing beats Elvis's Blue Xmas or Susie Snow flake and Hark Rock Coco and Joe... I think those are Chicago things.

Every year we hear Unheilig "Frohes Fest" - great christmas-songs in Gothic-style.

We are partial to "Alvin and the Chipmunks" Christmas Album, but since our daughter really is missing her "two front teeth", she listens to it endlessly!

I know this is a very old thread, but I really like Stryper's Christmas or Michael Sweet.

Bruce Cockburn-- “Cry of a tiny babe.”

The book of Matthew wrapped up in 7:33.

Not only my favorite Christmas song; makes my top 10 all time favorites.

Mary grows a child without the help of a man
Joseph gets upset because he doesn't understand
Angel comes to Joseph in a powerful dream
Says God did this and your part of his scheme

Joseph comes to Mary with his hat in his hand
Says, forgive me, I thought you'd been with some other man
She says what if I had been, but I wasn't anyway
And guess what, I felt the baby kick today

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever,
Redemption rips through the surface of time in the cry of a tiny babe

The child is born in the fullness of time
Three wise astrologers take note of the signs
Come to pay their respects to the fragile little king
Get pretty close to wrecking everything

Cause the governing body of the Holy land,
Is that of Herod a paranoid man
Who when he hears there's a baby born, King of the Jews
Sends death squads to kill all male children under two

But that same bright angel warns the parents in a dream
And they head out for the border and getaway clean

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever,
Redemption rips through the surface of time in the cry of a tiny babe

And there are others who know about this miracle birth
The humblest of people catch a glimpse of their worth
For it isn't to the palace that the Christ child comes
But to shepards and street people, hookers and bums

And the message is clear if you have ears to hear
That forgiveness is given for your guilt and your fears
It's a Christmas gift that you don't have to buy
There's a future shining in a baby’s eye

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever,
Redemption rips through the surface of time in the cry of a tiny babe
Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever,
Redemption rips through the surface of time in the cry of a tiny babe

I'm partial to Dean Martin singing any holiday tune. Maybe it's something about the ever-present glass of booze he always seemed to be holding.

Anolther great one, Paul Sanchez, don't know the exact title but it's something like, "I'll Be Drunk for Christmas, Just Like Every Year" (can find it on youtube).

Merry, Merry Day After Christmas!
