Very interesting, thanks for posting the link. That article should be archived here.
By coincidence, a very similar "behind the scenes/make it or break it" article about Wilco just popped up too, and was posted on their message board this week.

Caught this link on Facebook, but I see someone beat me to posting it here. I look forward to reading it.
Re: Spin Magazine: The Oral History of Runaway Train
Interesting article - thanks for sharing. My only quibble (with the wording) is what follows the statement below:
"...the pressure of trying to manage expectations...altered the band's trajectory in a way that...was ultimately unhealthy. In fact, Pirner is the only band member from that era still in the Soul Asylum fold...."
The author then mentions - seemingly as examples of what happened due to the "unhealthy trajectory" - Karl's death and that Dan's no longer a member.
It's silly to assert a causal relationship between Karl's death and the aforementioned unhealthy trajectory. Perhaps the author didn't mean to imply that, but that's how it reads.
Also, the author seems to assert Dan's departure can be linked to "Train" blowing up (and, in turn, blowing up the band); I mean, we're not in Dan's head and he's never said anything to suggest it, so I don't get the hint at a causal relationship.
(Yes, I know I'm a nerd who's reading too much into some sloppy turns of phrase. I'm an English instructor - it's my job.).

Great story.
" It made me feel really empowered. To be on the White House Lawn, doing my political songs like "Black Gold" and "Without a Trace" "
Without a Trace is a political song??? Someone explain

Thanks; very interesting read indeed. I archived the article under the article section of the site (located under Other Delights), which also has some older articles worth a read.Yaz McBoo wrote:Very interesting, thanks for posting the link. That article should be archived here.
