Soul Asylum and Meat Puppets are coming to The Independent on July 25th

July 24, 2015

Michael L Smith
Two bands that rose to everybody's consciousness during the time when MTV still introduced new and awesome bands to the kids; Souls Asylum and Meat Puppets, are making their way to San Francisco.

Soul Asylum is best known for their Grammy winning hit “Runaway Train”, “Black gold” and “Somebody to Shove”. A lot of the band's sound is built around the unmistakeable sound Dave Pirner. He’s also the band's main songwriter. Soul Asylum released their latest album “Delayed Reaction” in 2012 and are working on a new album. You can get your hands on the new album through Pledgemusic campaign.

Similarly Curt Kirkwood has been the carrying force behind Meat Puppets. Their psychedelic desert punk also has very distinctive sound. Meat Puppets were introduced to wider audience when they performed with Nirvana on their MTV unplugged session. Meat Puppets have been productive with albums and their latest one, “Rat Farm” is already their fourteenth studio album.

Both bands definitely belong to the soundtrack of the youth for so many of us. They started out in the ‘80s, took some time off from music around 2000 and got back to it around ‘06-’07. It’s great to see that both of them are still touring and enjoying performing for all of us. Soul Asylum and Meat Puppets will be playing at The Independent on Saturday, July 25th.
