2008 June 13th - Sunset Station Casino, Henderson, NV

Another great show. It was a gorgeous night for an outdoor concert. It must have been 80 degrees at 10 pm. Just beautiful.

SA brought the general admission crowd to the stage (who until then were all calmly sitting in their seats.) It was a slightly truncated set with no encore, which was disappointing, but not surprising since they were the second band on a triple bill. A nice surprise was a cover of "Gone til November", which I personally haven't heard them do since the Long Beach Chili Cookoff years ago. (Possibly when I first heard the song, "Oxygen.") Dave told the joke about watering the fake plant and said, "I'd like to dedicate that joke to Mitch Hedberg, the guy who wrote it."

(BTW, I highly recommend the CD/DVD combo "Mitch All Together". What a sad loss.)

After the show, Dave stoof off stage and signed autographs and took pictures with fans for almost an hour. Later, in the hotel, I happened to see Michael Bland, who spoke to me for a few minutes and was incredibly nice. I mentioned that I was at the Minneapolis Christmas show where they dug out a bunch of gems (Grounded, Easy Street) and he said that the band was disapppointed in that show because to them it didn't seem like anyone cared that they brought out the old stuff. I was flabbergasted, thinking everyone shared my excitement, but I guess the band felt kinda bummed. It was during that show that I actually thought I may, for the very first time, hear them do "Freaks".

As I was leaving, I mentioned to Michael that I'd be at the L.A. House of Blues show, and he said he *thinks* Tommy is playing bass on that one.

I also met some great hard core fans right up front. The only name I got was either Marta or Martha, but they were a fun bundle of energy.

Soul Asylum fans are cool. :)

Hi there. Just wandered onto this site from Soul Asylum's myspace page. I felt the need to reply to this particular thread because that show was a dream come true for me. I've been a fan for over 15 years and have seen the band play several times - from PA to GA to CA to NV where I currently reside. I got to meet Dave Friday night at Sunset Station and get an autograph and picture with him and I am still giddy from it! The photo and signed ticket stub are already framed and hanging in my office! lol Soul Asylum put on a great show (again) and will always be my #1!

Jon - Too funny! I went to your myspace page to check out your live pics and saw the ones from the Railhead at Boulder Station... I saw a pic of you and realized that I see you every day! I was standing right next to you for that show. I was also standing near you at Sunset Station. Right now, in my cubicle at work, I have a photo - up close and personal - of Dave jamming and you're in the photo right to my right. (My boyfriend took the pic) so I am actually seeing you every day that I am at work! What a small world. lol

Wow, that's funny about the photo. I feel bad that you have to stare at me every day. (All though I'm guessing you're more focused on Dave.) :)

I saw your myspace photos. I really liked how you continued your story with each photo and I'm so happy that you got to meet Dave. Congratulations!

Remember that fan who jammed with the band at Railhead last year? I'm pretty sure I saw him last weekend as well. A very small world, indeed.

Thanks again for sharing your story and photos!

-Jon

P.S. I just uploaded my photos from last weekend to my myspace page.

Jon - I had forgotten about the guy who jammed with them last year until I saw your pics. I do remember seeing him at Sunset Station as well. What a small world indeed! I just checked out your new pics on myspace and they're great! LOL @ looking at your face everyday. I don't mind! lol I'll figure out how to e-mail the pic to you when I am home later. You should have it since you're in it after all.

Norma - regaridng the set list. When I saw them at The Railhead last year, my boyfriend took the set list right off the stage when they were done so I have it in my scrap book. lol But, this time around it wasn't as easy to reach and, well, I was too busy screaming, dancing, and drooling to pay attention to the order of the songs. I could tell you what they played but not in order! Sorry!

RE: the Setlist, I'm the same way. I could figure out the songs, but not the complete order. The only things I remember for sure:

It started out with "Somebody to Shove", and then I'm pretty sure they went into "All is Well".

When they did "Cartoon", it was followed immediately by "Gone til November." (A beautiful segue.)

The final song was, "Stand Up and Be Strong."

I also remember "Runaway Train" being earlier in the setlist than it usually is. It might have even been in the first half.

I'm sure this is of virtually no help. :)

P.S. Thanks in advance for sending me the photo!

Wow!! that surprises me. I thought we (the crowd) ate it up. I thought it was the best show that I had seen in 15 years.
