A(H1N1) flu

Post by sayeeda »

Whether you've read the headlines or delved into the news, you know that swine flu is a big issue right now. A few hours ago it was renamed the A(H1N1) flu (used to be called the swine flu) to keep people from believing that eating pork and pork products causes swine flu.

Fact is, health professionals can't predict what might happen, whether the swine flu outbreaks will get worse or whether they'll blow over. Best thing to do is to not panic but get yourself educated with accurate info so you know what you're really facing and what you need to get prepared. Check the WHO website as well as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) site for information. I list a couple of FAQs below.

Take care everyone, Try to stay safe and healthy. :)

So frustrated. Get up anyway.
So complicated. Changes every day.

And the light, will come shining through.

The first person here (the Netherlands) with this flu has been diagnosed here today too. (on an already historical sad day. Today five people died when some lunatic tried to attack the royal family with a car on queen's day. That's stuff that doesn't happen here normally.)
Here they are calling it the Mexican flu now instead of the swine flu.

I read about that attack...unbelievable! I'm keeping my hopes up that those who're still in serious condition get well.

Mexican flu??? It's been around since 1930 since it was first isolated from a pig (hence the name swine flu) and I don't think that was in Mexico.

So WHO has declared a novel flu (swine flu) pandemic, but this doesn't mean you're going to start suddenly getting sick. Simple things to take care of yourselves to prevent swine flu apply just as they do for the flu.

Since it's also flu season in a lot of countries, please do, with the permission of your general practitioner, get your flu shots, wash hands with soap and water frequently, and cover your mouth when you cough and/or sneeze. Ya know, the basics.

I include an article on the WHO announcement below. Take care everyone!
