When I die I won't own crap, but my kids will have a hell of a music collection to fight over

Such a creative name for a venue.

Re: new show announced - Dec 5th 2009 Fargo, ND
It's just possible I might be able to get to this Fargo show
When it was first announced, I tried hard not to get too excited about it, because my funds are too snug atm to incorporate concert trip financing into my budget. However, my son recently ran a red light with my car, T-boning another car and totaling mine, but my sadness at the death of my car is easy to bear because my son was completely fine (and so was the other driver), and the timing of this incident means that the insurance payoff for my car can now fund a Soul Asylum excursion.
But without a good car to use for the trip, even fundage couldn't help.
Then on Saturday I told my best friend (and usual concertgoing partner in crime)about it , and she's sounding very interested in going (she even had a Soul Asylum dream that night, so it seems Fate is helping me out by convincing her she wants to go ) , so if her new job doesn't make it impossible, AND if the weather cooperates, we can probably get there.
I called the venue, and was told they'd even make a spot for me at the front so I will be gauranteed to be able to see the stage from my wheelchair,
It's helpful that it's in Fargo, as that's closer and can be a 2 day trip, instead of the 3 often needed for a Minniapolis concert trip.
So once again I will be praying to the gods of weather for decent winter roads for a concert trip.
I hope there's a Fargo or First Ave show scheduled during the summer in 2010 so I wouldn't have to stress about road conditions for once...

Good luck. How far is your drive to Fargo?

Fargo is only 4 1/2 - 5 hours away, depending on if you come close to obeying the speed limit on clean, dry roads, so a relatively close venue, as compared to other concert destinations. Rapid City, SD is about the same distance, but no one ever goes there, either, so we're usually doomed to driving all the way to Minniapolis or Denver for a concert.mystic_spiral_3 wrote:Good luck. Now if only SA would play at the Prairie Knights Casino south of Bismarck, that would only be about 2 1/2 hours away. (have I mentioned that I live in the friggin' boonies?, lol)

Info from The Venu's website:
They also have food so you can plan on having your supper there, enjoying the pre-show "Party" (marketing speak for an earlier, extended Happy Hour. IMO) and generally making an entire evening there, soaking up all the pre-show excitment.
I'm getting really excited for this show. I went to the Soul Asylum show at Playmaker's Pavilion several years ago, and it was a great show. Really good crowd, filled pretty good, excellent crowd participation, and the chemistry between the crowd and the band made it a stellar show, if I recall correctly.I think the crowd area is about 2x the depth of the floor area at First Ave, so a really nice size for a concert.
I wonder if the guys will be mingling during the Pre-Party Happy Hour(s)?
Sounds like the venue has a good plan for ensuring a good turnout and getting the crowd ready to rock when the show starts.

So "The Venue" is just a new name for the former Playmaker's Pavilion. I guess they must have changed the name because they acutally have several different bars all at the location, each having their own events calender.Soul Asylum Pre-Party
Pre-Party in Playmakers Sports Bar from 5pm-7pm. Enter your name for a chance to win autographed memorabilia from the band! Come join the fun!!
Happy Hour 4pm-8pm: 2 for 1 wells & calls, 1/2 price tap beer, and 2 for 1 domestic & import bottles!
UFC Fight Night on select Saturdays!
Imports for the price of domestics 8pm-close!!

O.K. I give in, I'll try to remember to pack my camera for this concert and try to smuggle it in, but it's not my usual "M.O." to take a camera to indoor concerts, and even if I do remember to take it, I'll only try to shoot video if I think I can manage it without being too obvious, so try not to be counting on video, but I'll give it serious consideration if I do remember to pack it.
Should I deface my camera by writing my name on it with permanent marker, in case it is confiscated?
If I think the bigger camera is too inconscipuous to use, but shoot still pics with my Blackberry instead, I'll upload them right away to my Facebook page, so watch it that Sat night in case I post pics live from the show.

Yeah, that was a fun show. I think that was the show where they brought a few people onstage to sing backup vocals for Summer of Drugs.dells wrote:

I'm pretty stoked about this upcoming show. My tickets arrived this morning, and it's SO satisfying to have new Soul Asylum tickets in hand
