SA mention in Star Tribune

Post by PROMISESBROKEN »

Last week the Star Tribune did a day in the life of First Avenue. Yesterday they followed it up with people who wrote in about their all time favorite shows at First Ave. Here's one of em...

"I have seen many great shows, but the best band I have ever seen there is Soul Asylum. For a plethora of reasons, their most recent show (Dec. 21) is my favorite. They changed up their set list, played with an enormous amount of energy and still peeled the paint off the ceiling. James Wishart, Chaska"

James, if you're on here, I totally agree!!!

Another person also mentioned that Loud Fast Rules was one of their favorite First Avenue shows of all time. Pretty cool.

Nice! Just for comparison: How many bands other than Soul Asylum were mentioned, roughly?

I was not on this website until this past weekend. I was told about by a friend; it looks like I have over a 100 new ones, it is great to be here.

I agree with a previous response; that the 1st Avenue article in the paper last week was to short. They edited the on line responses from the website and only picked a few; mine just happened to be one.

Here is my unedited response that I submitted to the website.

James From Chaska;

First Avenue is the best venue in the Twin Cities to see a band. I have seen many great shows there through the years. Matthew Sweet, Reverend Horton Heat, The Wallflowers, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Del Amitiri, Paul Westerberg, Terrance Trent Darby etc…

But; the best band I have ever seen there is SOUL ASYLUM. I consider them the greatest American band ever. I show my first show in 1990/ 1991; right after “Horsesâ€

Welcome, James! You're in good company; I don't think you're likely to find a higher concentration of people who share your opinion. It's always fun to know that people keep hearing about this site.

Hi James! Were you at the November 25 & 26, 1989 shows at First Avenue? Those were my only 2 SA shows there - I was only in Minnepolis for one semester. Great shows - Jayhawks opened!
