Iffy "the band" w/ Soul Asylum in Chicago
There was a band named "Iffy" that opened up for Soul Asylum in Chicago in the early 2000's. Anyone know of them and if they're still around. They were interesting. Kinda funky stuff, Dave joined them on trumpet towards the end of their set. Just remembered that show now, kinda

I've got one of their albums. It was Keith johnson's (I think that's his first name) band (kraig johnson, his brotheralso played with them on the road at least). I don't think they're still around though, but I could be wrong. I know kraig has been off doing other things at least

I think Kraig's brother's name is Kirk. It was Kirk, Tommy Merkl, and a third non-Kraig guy, though Kraig seemed to join them in concert. He was at the Iffy shows I saw about 10 years ago. I don't think the group is around anymore, though their cd was interesting.

Yeah, Kirk sounds right, going with a name off the top of my head while in lab working on a paper probably wasn't the best of ideas.mystic_spiral_3 wrote:I think Kraig's brother's name is Kirk. Wow...I believe I saw this show you are talking about. I believe it was at the Metro, and around 2000 sounds right. I was not a fan at all of Iffy, but I remember Dave coming out and playing the trumpet.

Cheers. A good show for sure. One of the better soul asylum shows I've seen (I think). I recorded the show on a Walkman and one of my friends lost it while transfering it to cd. Also not sure what he did with the cd version. Oh well! Many more shows to see. Take care.

I've only seen Iffy a few times, and I thought their music was pretty good! Not all that much different then their previous band (Run Westy Run). Here's a link with some info on them

But no, they are no longer a band and haven't been since about 2005 (give or take).

Sometimes I wonder.....why is that Frisbee getting bigger? And then it hits me.

you don't consider iffy different than the westies? I consider the westies a very different band personally. They have a bit of the funk of iffy, but far more... hmm... the punk rock side or something?

There is a general theme that flows through RWR and Iffy, but the latter was definitely more pop and less thrashy punk. I saw Iffy several times, I think there was plans for a second album, or least it was mentioned, and then it was as if they all but disappeared. I still play that Iffy disc pretty regularly. Good stuff.
Would you look into my eyes if I were to go blind?
