I just read this article about following a band that others think is not cool. Thought I would share it
Any thoughts? I get weird looks when I tell people my favorite band is soul asylum.

Re: Article on liking a "lame" band
I haven't gotten as much grief for listening Soul Asylum as I have some of the other music I listen to. For me the cost of giving up the music I want to listen to just to appease other people who may not have the same taste in music as me has just never been worth it. So I take whatever grief people want to give me...proudly.

now i'm dying to know - what music gets you the most grief?!
i love arlo guthrie and people look at me even weirder for that than soul asylum.

I'm also a long-time Hall & Oates fan. When my H&O fandom was at it's peak back in high school in the 80's, I got a lot of grief for it. (though in hindsight some of it may have been for the pure entertainment of watching me go into a rage defending their honor)
Odd thing is it's a lot cooler to like them now. The Varsity Theater in Mpls. has been having Hall & Oates nights. I went to one and it was surreal-all these hipster 20-somethings there. We felt like we were on another planet or something.

Re: Article on liking a "lame" band
My friends were all "punk rawk" when I was in college, and i remember being at a punk fest... and someone found out I liked Soul Asylum. I got made fun of terribly, everyone was laughing at me, and then this one punk dude came out of nowhere and said "LEAVE HER ALONE! SOUL ASYLUM IS PUNK AS HELL." lol.
But yeah, I used to get made fun of for it, but I don't really care. I like what i like.
